There is one final characteristic of Jonah’s prayer that should not escape notice, for, in terms of his rebellion, it is the most significant of all. Jonah is now ready to take his place alongside the ungodly. Earlier he had said, “I am a Jew, and I do not want to preach to the heathen.” Now he was willing to take a place beside them as one who needed God’s mercy.
